Summary: Options for updating student identities
Jeffco seeks to create an environment that nurtures academic achievement, provides physical and emotional safety, and welcomes all students. As part of our efforts to increase diversity, acceptance, and respect for all students, cultures and beliefs, Jeffco is committed to honoring a student’s choice.
Jeffco will abide by state and federal requirements by utilizing legal name and gender for federal and state reporting and when generating legal documents, such as official high school transcripts and immunization records; however, a student's choice to express their preferred identity will be honored by Jeffco Public Schools with the appropriate documentation.
For questions regarding enrolling a student with deviations from their birth certificate, contact your student's current school.
CURRENT STUDENT WISHES TO USE A NICKNAME
Nicknames refer to alternate or abbreviated versions of a student's name, familiar or humorous, which the student prefers to use in school; for example, student's legal name is "Richard," but wishes to go by "Ricky" or "MJ" for "Mickie Jean."
- Families may enter a nickname during OnLine Registration (new students) or Annual Update (continuing students).
- Outside of the above windows, contact your student's current school.
CURRENT STUDENT HAS A LEGAL NAME AND/OR GENDER update
Students whose identity is legally changed may have their identity updated in Infinite Campus, including adoption or identity corrections/updates. All student records will reflect the updated name and/or gender unless the student has a preferred identity.
-
Family provides documents confirming changes to the student's current school.
- Family may provide court, state, or federal documents showing the identity update, such as a court order, passport, or government issued photo ID.
- All systems will update to the new legal name and/or gender
- Student records may display the student's updated legal name and/or gender
